The phenomenon of TV series, the film “Vertigo” by Alfred Hitchcock, the co-production between Galicia and Portugal and the first news broadcast of Folk (a producer from Pontevedra) will be the focus of the talks organized in the framework of FICBUEU 2017. Some distinguished specialists will come to Bueu in September to talk with the professionals and with the general public about these subjects. This way, the programme of the projections will be complemented.
The opening session will take place on Satuday 9 from 11:00 p.m. with a soundtrack concert performed by the jazz trio ‘A doce vita’. In it, professor José Luís Castro de Paz will introduce the “Noticiario Folk nº 1”. It is a recently restored piece that brings closer the Galicia of 1932 through short reports on culture, sport, fishing, etc. The projection and the talk “Republican cinema in Galicia: Ramón Barreiro and Folk news” show the great value of the audiovisual heritage and the figure of one of the creators of the republican film producer that used the celluloid to show the country’s transformation for three years.
Sunday 10 at 19:00 p.m. also in Centro Social do Mar, “Vertigo”, a reference film in the history of cinema will be projected. Afterwards, it will be analyzed by Castro de Paz. The expert in the work of Hitchcock will introduce us into the complex psychological schemes of the master of suspense, full of symbolisms and multiple readings.
The conferences will continue next weekend with “Living series. TV fiction in today’s world”. This talk will take place on September 16 at 12:00 p.m. in Massó Museum. Professor Concepción Cascajosa will talk about the ability that this booming cultural products have to reflect current times, because series have reached a production level, interpretation and complexity in terms of stories almost impossible to imagine a couple of decades ago.
That same day in that same place, at 18:00 p.m. will take place the master class “Galicia and Portugal, producing cinema through the two sides of the border”. It will be given by famous Portuguese producer António Costa. Besides, the director of Avanca’s Cinema Festival and member of FICBUEU’s 2017 international jury will expound the incentives and possibilities so as to bring about joint productions. At the same time, he will present the challenges that may appear in larger and better collaborations.
