This year, the International Short Film Festival of Bueu has beaten its own record with the reception of 2.202 short films. These films come from a hundred different countries within the five continents of the world. Last Saturday, the deadline to present films to the competition was closed. The contest will take place in the Galician village from 7th to 15th of September.
Once more, France represents a quarter of all sent films; not only because of the dynamism that characterizes the Gallic cinema but probably because of the participation of one delegation from FICBUEU in the prestigious Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand. Spain is the second most represented country with 256 films, following it, although with less than half, are: Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Italy and Russia. It is important to underline the participation of some countries as remote as Swaziland, Singapore, Maurice Islands, Moldova or Kirgizstan.
Another important issue to focus on is the constantly increasing number of short films directed by women, 32% this year. Furthermore, 34% of all short films suppose the first appearance of some participant filmmakers. Regarding genres, fiction remains on the lead and the contents are often a representation of reality, with a special emphasis on social issues. During the next weeks, the selection team of FICBUEU 2018 will continue to view all films sent and on 15th of May the titles that are going to be projected during the festival will be announced.
