The filmmaker Andrés Goteira, the actress María Vázquez and the actor Xúlio Abonjo are part of the national jury of FICBUEU 2019, responsible for awarding the prizes to the best Galician and Spanish short films in this twelfth edition of the competition. The six films of the Galicia R Section compete for the former, while the second one includes both the four works of the Spain Section as well as the other two spanish films present this year, one corresponding to the International Section and the other to the Experimental Section. The juries meet today, Sunday, in Bueu to watch the twelve short films in the Centro Social do Mar.

After having made several short films, Andrés Goteira writes and directs Dhogs, his debut in the full-length film with which he has travelled through numerous competitions all over the world. This is the first film shot in Galician that was premiered at the Sitges Film Festival and it won 13 of the 17 nominations for the Mestre Mateo Awards 2017. The also founder of the production company Gaitafilmes is currently working on the pre-production of an intimate documentary, Welcome to ma maison, and the script for his second fiction film, A pequena variación.

María Vázquez is a well-known figure on the television field for having participated in series such as Vivir sin permiso, Fariña or Padre Casares. Regarding cinema, she has worked with great directors such as Armendáriz in Silencio Roto or Bollaín in Mataharis, a film for which she was nominated to the Goya Awards and for which she won several awards. Her work was also awarded in different editions of the Mestre Mateo, where she was recognized as Best Actress for her roles in O club da calceta, Mar libre and Trote. She is going to premier Quien a hierro mata soon.

Xúlio Abonjo began his professional career in theatre as an actor and even writing and directing Hendaya mon amour, awarded in the María Casares. His first work in front of the cameras was in 1998 in the short film A escapada and he would later continue in several TVG series such as Terra de Miranda, A vida por diante and Serramoura, besides state productions such as Cuestión de sexo or Fariña. In the cinema, he has participated in the short films Sen chumbo and Einstein-Rosen, for which he was awarded several prizes, and feature films such as O lápis do carpinteiro, O ano da carracha, Encallados ou Os fenómenos.
