The transition from short films to feature films, art direction in the cinema or the production of a film will be the main topics presented in the talks of the 12th Bueu International Short Film Festival, which will take place from September 6th to 14th. The conferences, with free admission, will be held on weekends at the Meeting Point of FICBUEU and will be given by renowned professionals such as filmmaker Xacio Baño, artistic director Elia Robles or producer Sergio Frade.

Under the heading ‘Art direction in cinema’, Elia Robles will introduce in her master class the methodology and importance of this discipline, providing her own experiences and sharing with the festival’s audience how she faces the aesthetic creation of each new project. It will take place on Saturday 7th at 11.30 am. The guest was part of the film La sombra de la ley‘s Art Department, awarded the Goya for Best Art Direction, and she recently worked with Amenábar and Sánchez Arévalo. The session will also include a brief presentation of the feature film Ons, in which Elia Robles is in charge of the artistic direction, for which Alfonso Zarauza, director of the film, will also be present.

‘From short film to feature film’ will be the title of the discussion that the filmmaker Xacio Baño will have on Sunday 8th September at the same time. Thus, he replaces Rodrigo Cortés, invited in 2018 to explain this usual transit in the field of film directing. Xacio Baño, awarded the Prize for Best Galician Short Film in several editions of the FICBUEU, presented his first feature film, Trote, last year in Locarno. In the report, presented by also filmmaker Gaspar Broullón, he will review his trajectory in order to delve into the differences when dealing with projects of different lenght and the challenges of changing format.

On Saturday 14th, at 12.30 pm, it will be the turn of Frida Films’ executive producer, Sergio Frade, who, with the conference ‘The production of a film’, will bring the audience closer to the complex process of carrying out a cinematographic project, from the reception of the script to obtaining the final copy of the film. The last part of his intervention will focus on ways to self-produce a short film, with special attention to the search for financing. Frida Films is committed to auteur cinema, with names such as Nely Reguera, Juanjo Giménez and Diana Toucedo.
