The FICBUEU presents its first Festival Night in collaboration with other international events

FICBUEU

Bueu, November 20, 2024 – On November 30, the first “Noite de Festivais” (Festival Night) will take place at the Social Center of Bueu. Organized by the FICBUEU as part of its international collaboration program, the event will bring four short films from four different festivals to the public.

The short films have been selected by the Edinburgh Short Film Festival (ESFF)Shortcutz Amsterdam, the Adriatic Film Festival, and Lens Dans from Barcelona. They will be screened at the Centro Social do Mar on Saturday, November 30, at 9:00 PM, in a single session for which tickets are already available on the FICBUEU online store.

Representing the Scottish festival, Edinburgh Short Film Festival (ESFF), the short film “Broono” (2024, 21 min) will be shown. Directed by Gerald Lepkowski, it tells the unexpected story of friendship between an 11-year-old boy and the neighborhood bully in 1970s Glasgow.

Shortcutz Amsterdam will present the short film “Free Fall” (2021, 19 min) by Emmanuel Tenenbaum. Inspired by a true story, it follows Tom, a London-based trader who decides to carry out the most significant financial operation of his life after the first plane hits the World Trade Center.

From Italy, “Dreaming Boy” by Davide Vigore, a coming-of-age short selected by the Adriatic Film Festival, takes us alongside Pietro as he embarks on his journey toward maturity. The director will attend the screening to introduce his film and participate in a post-screening Q&A session with the audience.

This first Noite de Festivais will also feature a piece selected by Lens Dans, a festival specializing in dance films held in Barcelona and Brussels. The short film “Soma” (2023, 10 min), directed by the Kwam Collective, will complete the session. “Soma” explores a contemporary myth about the genesis of the human body. Through its free, dreamlike narrative, various characters experience visceral bodily sensations of love, enchantment, pain, and death.

The activity is part of the FICBUEU collaboration program, through which the festival organizes various events and screenings throughout the year. Recently, the Bueu festival brought short films from its previous edition to cities such as Edinburgh, Italy, and Barcelona. The “Noite de Festivais” will be one of the final collaborations of 2024. Looking ahead to 2025, FICBUEU has already scheduled several events with national and international festivals and continues to develop its collaboration program.

Bueu, November 4, 2024 – The International Film Festival of Bueu (FICBUEU) continues its efforts to promote the short film beyond the annual event held in Bueu.

Following the 17th edition of FICBUEU, various activities scheduled for 2024 are still ongoing, coinciding this month with several of its national and international collaborations.

Thus, last weekend, the Bueu festival took the shorts “Habitar” by Anxos Fazáns and “Frialdad” by Andrea Sánchez to Edinburgh. Both shorts were present in the Official Section of FICBUEU 2024, with “Habitar” winning the award for the best Galician short film of the year. Their presence in the Scottish city was the result of the collaboration between FICBUEU and the Edinburgh Short Film Festival (ESFF), which invited the organizers of several European festivals to be part of its program in the European Film Festivals Showcase once again. Other festivals present at this event included the Adriatic Film Festival, an Italian festival held annually in Francavilla al Mare (Chieti), Shortcutz Amsterdam, which is part of the Shortcutz network that hosts events in numerous cities, and the Budapest Short Film Festival, which has been running for 20 years.

The next collaboration event for FICBUEU will take place in Barcelona on November 8. On this occasion, invited by the Lens Dans Festival, FICBUEU will screen the short film “A Room with a View,” created by the collective (LA) Horde in collaboration with the Ballet National de Marseille and musician Rone. This work, which was screened in the Discoveries Section of FICBUEU 2021, will be part of the closing of this festival dedicated exclusively to dance on video.

However, these will not be the last collaborations for FICBUEU in 2024, as at the end of November the organization will hold an event in Bueu where the public can enjoy various films proposed by other festivals.
