FICBUEU opens tomorrow a section to showcase the work of the new generation of Galician audiovisual filmmakers

AUNT NI ATTENDS HER PREMIERE
FICBUEU 2023 screenings began with the premiere of the short documentary film 'A tía Ni and her market'. It was this Friday night. The film tells the story of the Mercado da Tía Ni, a bookshop and antique shop that, at its base in Castro de Gaxate (A Lama, Pontevedra), also functions as a cultural space and meeting point. The project was developed by users of the center specialized in behavioral disorders ITA Berducido. Aunt Ni attended the premiere at Centro Social do Mar.

The Bueu International Film Festival, the FICBUEU, will return tomorrow, Sunday, to the Galician cultural agenda with the premiere of a section in its programme that seeks to bring the work of new creators of short films directed and/or produced in Galicia closer to the public. “GZ_00”, as the new category is called, will bring together, in the Auditorium of the Centro Social do Mar in Bueu, half a dozen films that will show the emerging talent in the region and that will compete for the award for the best Galician short film in this, the sixteenth edition of FICBUEU. The screening will take place from 19.30 hours.
Behind this selection of Galician films are three women and three men. Vigo-born Lucía Estévez brings to the Festival O neno sardiña, about a legendary character who crosses the river Miño to get away from those who celebrate his burial at the end of Carnival. This is the fifth short film by this director, in which she had the interpretative work of María Vázquez or Diego Anido. 30′ 70 60′ 120, the story of a prostitute in her waiting time between meetings, is signed by the director from Nigrán Marta Valverde; and Na pel da memoria is the work of Coral and Laura Piñeiro from Vilagarcía, founders of the association “Memory and Cinema”. Through this short documentary that will be screened tomorrow at FICBUEU, they will bring the public closer to the figure of Mariví Villaverde, a writer, also from Vilagarcía de Arousa, a reference in the recovery of the historical memory of the exile.
Nacho Ozores from Lugo will be in «GZ_00» with Solo, a veces. Frágil, siempre, the story of a man who wants to spend a quiet Friday night but is made difficult by the universe. In O coidado, presented by Miguel Canalejo, a filmmaker based in A Coruña, the main characters are a 70-year-old man who begins to have problems with his autonomy and the android who helps him. Completing the list of emerging Galician talent is Santi Teijelo from Santiago de Compostela with his film Malgrat, a documentary project that reflects on the capacity of spaces to house memories.
Avant´garde with «Descubertas» and the cinema of «Escolas Internacionais»
Tomorrow night, the Auditorio do Centro Social do Mar (9.30 PM) will also screen the six films of the «Descubertas» section, which includes the most avant-garde and innovative works of the last few months on the world scene. This year, the films selected come from countries such as Holland (Buurman Abdi), Iran (Majmouan), the United Kingdom and Norway (A history of the world according to Getty Images), Finland (The Transient), Hungary (Resting Fog) and Spain (Bloom). In addition, at 6.30 PM there will be a screening of four of the best works from film schools around the world in the «Escolas Internacionais» section: La herida luminosa, by Spanish director Christian Avilés; Rituály, by Czech director Damián Vondršek; Raíces, by Italian directors Maddalena Brozzi, Laura Cagnoni and Sara Moschini; and The Boy Who Couldn’t Feel Pain, by German director Eugen Merher.
