Nine international short films in competition, filmmakers’ colloquium and live radio, tomorrow’s cultural offer at the FICBUEU

The new GZ_00 section of the FICBUEU yesterday brought together some of the newest talents in Galician cinema. They presented their new short films and spoke to the audience at the Sala Amalia Domínguez Búa. I There will be a screening with five films at 7.30 p.m., followed by a meeting with two women from the world of cinema, and another session with 4 films at 9.30 p.m.

BUEU. 11.08.2023. The projections of the “Official Section” of the FICBUEU follow. Nine of the 28 short films competing to enter the 16th edition of the Bueu International Film Festival can be seen tomorrow on the screen of the Centro Social do Mar Auditorium.

The first of the cinematographic sessions, which will begin at 7.30 pm, will bring together five films: the short 45th Parallel, by the Jordanian Lawrence Abu Hamdan and produced in the United Kingdom; Airhostess-747, from the Greek Thanasis Neofotistos; the Oscar-nominated animated film The Flying Sailor, by Canadian filmmakers Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby; Aqueronte, by Manuel Muñoz Rivas from Seville; and Daphne, by Tonia Mishiali, from Cyprus.

The Cypriot filmmaker will take part in a discussion that will be held after the screenings (9:00 p.m.), in which she will be accompanied by María Royo, assistant director and head of production at Aqueronte, the Spanish representative in this short competition group.

The second movie session will start later, from 9.30pm. The FICBUEU will present four more short films, including a Galician one, Alicia fai cousas, by Marín (Pontevedra) director Ángel Santos. Premiered this same year, multi-prized at the Cans festival in Porriñes, it tells the story of a 25-year-old girl who is convinced that she is bored and while preparing for an audition, thinks about whether she should sign up for a course or whether or not to go to a party.

The night’s program completes Will my parents come to see me, by Somali Mo Harawe; O outro extremo da rúa, by Hungarian director Kálmán Nagy, and the animated film Ice Merchants, with which Portuguese director Joao Gonzalez won at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar.

Cinema and radio

Tomorrow will also be the second day of the “Cinema and Radio” space, which will last until Friday. The journalist specialized in cinema David Martos will travel to the FICBUEU to perform live, from 18.00 hours, a new episode of the podcast Kinótico, which is broadcast on Onda Cero and which is one of the programs of reference in the sector. Entrance is free.
