FICBUEU reaches the halfway point of its 19th edition, consolidating Bueu as an international meeting point for short filmmaking

Bueu, 9 September, 2026 – The Bueu International Film Festival (FICBUEU) reaches the halfway point of its 19th edition following opening days marked by the strong response from audiences and the presence in Bueu of filmmakers and film professionals from different countries.

The international competition comprises 28 short films presented across six programmes, with members of several film teams in attendance to introduce their films and take part in discussions with audiences. During the first screenings of the Official Section, there have already been one international premiere, four Spanish premieres and three Galician premieres, as part of a selection that brings together different origins, languages and approaches to contemporary cinema.

In total, the 19th edition of FICBUEU screens 78 films from 28 countries, including 41 Galician premieres, 19 Spanish premieres and two international premieres, consolidating the festival’s international dimension and its role as a space for film exhibition and encounters. The Official Section will continue until Saturday 12 September, when the awards of the 19th edition will be announced.

FICBUEU will continue its programme until 19 September with MINIFIC, maintaining its commitment to education and to developing new audiences.

“A September of Cinema”, supporting local businesses

Coinciding with the Official Section, FICBUEU is collaborating with the “A September of Cinema” campaign, an initiative aimed at connecting the festival’s activities with local businesses in the Morrazo area and encouraging purchases at establishments in the surrounding area. The campaign runs from 7 to 13 September and will distribute a total of €750 in prizes.

During these days, people attending FICBUEU screenings will receive a card with a code that they can enter on the comerciodomorrazo.com website to check whether they have won a prize. The campaign includes nine €50 vouchers, as well as a final €300 prize draw, to be spent at participating businesses.

Organised by the business associations ACICA, ACIMO and ACIBU, the initiative aims to make the most of the presence of audiences in Bueu during the festival while also strengthening the connection with economic activity in the area. The campaign is co-funded by the Xunta de Galicia and Comercio Galego, with the collaboration of FICBUEU.

New bus service to Pontevedra

To facilitate attendance at the final session of the Official Section and encourage travel to Bueu without a private vehicle, the return bus service to Pontevedra has a new route, operating from Monday to Saturday.

The bus will depart at 11:15 p.m. from the Bueu Porto stop, once the day’s final screening has ended. This new route, created in collaboration with the Mobility Service of the Xunta de Galicia, will reinforce the regular service during the days of the festival’s Official Section.
