Bueu, May 22, 2026 – Next Friday, May 29, the Bueu International Film Festival will once again collaborate with AMBIENTA, the Pontevedra LGBTQI+ Film Showcase. FICBUEU will once again be responsible for the closing session of the showcase with the program Ambienta en Curta, a selection of short films that, through a critical and diverse perspective, denounce the inequalities and issues affecting the LGBTQI+ community. A mosaic of viewpoints that reflects the diversity existing within the community itself.
AMBIENTA was created to showcase the best Galician and international audiovisual productions about the LGBTIQA+ reality. It is a showcase that advocates for quality cinema that embraces the lives, bodies, and affections of all people, without exception, while also creating a space for encounter, culture, and social interaction around cinema and diversity.
This year, the following films have been programmed for the session:
ALGO NOVO QUE CONTAR, Paula Pereira

Xoana spends the summer with a group of friends. Among them is Emma, a girl with whom she begins to explore something more than friendship. However, Xoana has never had sexual relationships, and the idea of taking that step fills her with fear and insecurity.
HELLO STRANGER, Amélie Hardy
(Canada, 2024, 16 min. OV with Galician subtitles)
Cooper Josephine struggles with her transition process. In her search for identity, she faces family expectations and social prejudice on a journey toward self-discovery.
BLOOMER, Jimmy Zwedberg

Pascal films a youth band at a skatepark, and little by little, a mutual attraction develops between him and Joel. However, the situation becomes complicated when Pascal discovers that Joel is only sixteen years old.
FICBUEU has spent years actively collaborating with groups and initiatives that promote equality. Through the FICBUEU Association, we also contribute to this work through decisions such as building a team made up mostly of women. In addition, we use inclusive and non-discriminatory language in all our communications and develop specific activities that place these values at the heart of the program.
As part of this line of work, last March FICBUEU organized, in collaboration with Cineclube Entrecortiñas, a special session to commemorate International Women’s Day at the Illa de Arousa auditorium. The session brought together five short films directed by women from different parts of the world: Rose, by Annika Mayer; Rapaza de fábrica, by Selma Cervantes; Anansi, by Aude N’Guessan Forget; Vlekkeloos, by Emma Branderhorst; and Shadows, by Rand Beiruty.
Five perspectives, five stories, and one shared strength: the creativity and resilience of women through cinema.
In addition, the festival is also preparing a new collaboration with POLARI, an organization committed to equality and to the preservation of individual and collective rights in Illa de Arousa. LGBTQI+ Pride Day, on June 28, will be celebrated with a special short film session at the Illa de Arousa Auditorium at 8:30 p.m.
