Manuel Pena: “The FICBUEU will offer greater enjoyment for the public with less daily load”
FICBUEUThe organization and the collaborating entities presented the program that will take place from September 11 to 24.
The 15th Bueu International Film Festival will offer an extensive program with the screening of more than a hundred short films and the launch of various activities between the September 11 to 24, returning to the usual rhythm after two years marked by pandemic restrictions.
This was stated today at the press conference for the presentation of this 2022 edition, in which, in addition to the organization, various institutions such as the Bueu City Council, the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries of the Xunta de Galicia – AGADIC or the Pontevedra Provincial Council, entities that support the festival together with the ICAA of the Ministry of Culture.
At the event, which could be followed via streaming on the Pontevedra Provincial Council channels as part of the Rías Baixas Film Fest proposal, those present highlighted the importance of restoring normality to cultural events and the influx of the public to them.
The director of the festival, Manuel Pena, wanted to highlight the importance of recovering the full capacity in a special year full of novelties, in which the festival’s program passes to two weeks to give space and time to the different activities, seeking, as he commented, “a greater enjoyment by the public with a lower daily load, without this affecting the programming”.
In this way, the FICBUEU 2022 will be structured in three blocks, with a first week dedicated to short films and a second in which the MiniFIC and the I Cinema Seminars will be held, standing out as one of the main innovations of this edition. About the conference, Pena explained that “these will not be oriented to short films, because they will be oriented to the cinema in general”, seeking to “give greater depth to the analysis and reflection on the art of cinema”.
After him, the director of AGADIC, Jacobo Sutil, took the floor, representing the Xunta de Galicia, who highlighted “the importance of this type of festival, which positions the Galician audiovisual sector at a very favorable time”. The regional representative also took the opportunity to congratulate the FICBUEU for “taking so much care of the programming and thinking about the public” by extending its duration, giving the attendees the opportunity to take advantage of their visit to the town of Bueu.
In keeping with the foregoing, the President of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, Carmela Silva, praised Bueu, defining it as “a beautiful place in which culture is committed”, opining that “it is another of the charms that it has for offer the FICBUEU”. The provincial president also congratulated the organization for the “clear commitment to cinema, to short films and for bringing this programming to neighbors.” Finally, Silva also highlighted “all the work behind it to comply with the requirement of the two-week duration of the project”.
To conclude, the mayor of Bueu, Félix Juncal, took the floor, accompanied by the councilor for culture, Xosé Leal. The local authority took the opportunity to reflect on the opportunities offered by the town, while stressing that the FICBUEU “is one of those projects that allows us to share and live an experience to enjoy”.
