The 18th FICBUEU winners list

Bueu, September 14, 2025 – FICBUEU announced the winners of its 18th edition during an awards ceremony that was enlivened by live music from André Soaxe and Martiño Malleiro Díaz.

The Official Jury, of international character and responsible for awarding the First Prize, the Best Galician Short Film Award, and the Best Spanish Short Film Award, was composed of producer and cultural manager Beatriz Hernández, filmmaker and educator Eloy Domínguez Serén, and programmer Massimo Ianetti.

The Descubertas Jury was composed of cultural manager and programmer María Juárez, musical composer and designer Elba Fernández, and filmmaker, critic, and translator Xavier Montoriol. The three selected the awards for Best Descubertas Short Film, Best GZ_00 Short Film, and Best International Film School Short Film.

The awarded films and the juries’ justifications are as follows:

> First Prize: THE EGGREGORES’ THEORY by ANDREA GATOPOULOS

A work that captivates with its bold originality and striking resonance, shaping a universe of spectral and monstrous visions where words acquire a dangerous weight. A film that explores a new technology for a new kind of image.

In this category, the jury decided to give a special mention to PERCEBES, BY ALEXANDRA RAMIRES AND LAURA GONÇALVES. A poetic and moving reflection between the artistic and the communal, offering a vivid documentary portrait in watercolor.

> Best Galician Short Film Award: ABELLÓN by FON CORTIZO.

A work about senses, sensations, and feelings. It has the capacity to incorporate audio description as a narrative element, immersing the viewer in an innovative relationship with the images. A film that shares a visual experience through a non-visual perception, accessible to all audiences.

> Best Spanish Short Film Award: CAMPOLIVAR by ALICIA MONCHOLÍ.

The director embarks on an uncomfortable journey that avoids nostalgia through the symbolic use of a familiar and cinematic space. This work opens a window onto a painful childhood episode.

An honest, intimate, and brave film that fragments reality between legal files and children’s games.

> Audience Award: O, by RÚNAR RÚNARSSON

> Best Descubertas Short Film Award: ON HOLD by DELIA HESS.

For its way of condensing a poetic image of an everyday waiting situation and immersing us with simplicity in its own rhythm.

> Best GZ_00 Short Film Award: ALGO NOVO QUE CONTAR by PAULA PEREIRA.

For making listening a narrative tool that enhances the story and for generating intimacy through the way it films its characters.

> Best International Film School Short Film Award: CROW MAN by YOHANN ABDELNOUR.

For the complexity of emotions it reflects in a short span of time, encapsulating denial, anger, sadness, and acceptance through tense treatment and a delicate form.

> Best Galician Film School Short Film Award: PRAZA DO PUNTO by AIRA PORTOS REY.

For its exquisite aesthetic proposal and the original use of editing, resulting in an innovative documentary piece.
