Bueu, 23/07/2025 – The FICBUEU, which will take place between September 5 and 20, presents today the members of its juries. While the Official Jury will be composed of Beatriz Hernández, Eloy Domínguez Serén, and Massimo Ianetti, the Descubertas Jury will include María Juárez, Elba Fernández, and Xavier Montoriol.
The Official Jury, international in nature and responsible for awarding the First Prize, the Best Galician Short Film Award, and the Best Spanish Short Film Award, will be made up of producer and cultural manager Beatriz Hernández, filmmaker and university professor Eloy Domínguez Serén, and film programmer Massimo Ianetti.

Beatriz Hernández is currently the artistic director of the Skyline Benidorm Film Festival, president of the Spanish Short Film Coordinator, and one of the founders of FESCICOM, the Association of Film Festivals of the Valencian Community.
Eloy Domínguez Serén‘s films have been programmed at festivals such as IDFA, Mar del Plata, Visions du Réel, and Clermont-Ferrand, as well as at the Anthology Film Archives, the Centre Pompidou, and the Reina Sofía Museum; in addition, he teaches at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at USC.
Massimo Ianetti is part of the programming team at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and the Lago Film Fest. He also coordinates the market at Sheffield DocFest and serves as Head of Industry at the Pordenone Docs Fest.
In addition, the Descubertas Jury will consist of cultural manager and programmer María Juárez, composer and designer Elba Fernández, and filmmaker, critic, and translator Xavier Montoriol. These three will present the Best Descubertas Short Film Award, the Best GZ_00 Short Film Award, and the Best International Film School Short Film Award.

María Juárez has worked in production and communications teams at Documenta Madrid, Emergente CineLab!, MAFIZ, Alcine, Torino Film Lab, and Rizoma. She is part of the Iberseries & Platino Industria team and directs the Directed by Women Spain festival.
Composer Elba Fernández has worked on the soundtracks of projects such as Hierro, Rapa, Ons, Code: Emperor, and Sica, among others. In the graphic field, she creates key art, posters, titles, and visual design for films and series.
Xavier Montoriol specializes in audiovisual curation and has collaborated with film publications such as A Cuarta Parede, Otros Cines Europa, Outskirts, À pala de Walsh, and is co-founder of the cultural space Muelle5. In 2024, he premiered his first short film, Cantarà l’alosa, at the Curtas Vila do Conde festival.
Submitted Works and Awards
For this 18th edition of FICBUEU, the programming team watched more than 1,700 audiovisual works, compared to the 1,212 films received last year. In terms of genre, fiction accounts for the majority of submissions, followed —in this order— by animation, documentary, and experimental works.
The films finally selected will be eligible for the following awards:
First Prize (€2,000 and trophy); Audience Award (€500 and trophy); Best Galician Short Film Award (€500 and trophy); Best Spanish Short Film Award (€500 and trophy); Best Descubertas Short Film Award (€500 and trophy); Best GZ_00 Short Film Award (€250 and trophy); and Best International Film School Short Film Award (€250 and trophy).
