The FICBUEU Monographs arrive at the Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Elche

FICBUEU

Severiano Casalderrey presents the two essays published to date at one of the most popular festivals on the peninsula.

After the colloquium, the programming included a screening of some of the best Galician shorts that passed through the FICBUEU.

The FICBUEU was present during the celebration of the 45th Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Elche as a guest festival. The representative was Severiano Casalderrey, author of the Monographs and one of the FICBUEU programming managers, who brought the short format to Alicante on July 7, one day before the start of the festival that will end on the 22nd of the same month.

Casalderrey had the opportunity to present the FICBUEU Monographs project in an interesting colloquium that began at 8:00 p.m. and ended with the screening of some of the most outstanding Galician short films that have passed through the FICBUEU, such as ‘Homeless Home’ by Alberto Vázquez, ‘Carne’ by Camila Kater, ‘Augas Abisais’ by Xacio Baño, ‘Xoves de Comadres’ by Noemi Chantada and ‘Matria’ by Álvaro Gago.

During the conference, the situation and context of Galician cinema were discussed. In addition, various periods in the history of the short film were also discussed, especially the French Nouvelle Vague and the National Film Board of Canada, protagonists of the two books published to date.

The FICBUEU Monographs project was born in 2020 and is the result of all the selection and research work carried out for the FICBUEU Retrospective Section, for which it is necessary to carry out extensive documentation work, as well as to view a significant number of films.

In this 2022 edition, the ‘FICBUEU#3 Monograph’ will be presented, dedicated to the Institute of Researchers and Cinematographic Experiences (IIEC) and the later Official School of Cinematography (EOC), focusing for the first time on Spanish cinema and emphasizing the period from 1947 to 1976.

The first two books can be found in the FICBUEU online store for all those interested, while the third of them will be available after its official presentation.
